KAP is one of the leaders in environmentally aware printing processes. From our "alcohol-free" press room (implemented over 16 years ago), to our adoption and encouragement of digital technologies, the installation of one of Europe's most state of the art "no process" plate production systems, and our comprehensive waste reduction measures - we feel we are at the cutting edge of environmental improvements in our industry. What are KAP's Key Environmental Advantages? 1. 15 years of "alcohol-free" printing Our press hall runs without any Isopropanol being used in the press dampening system, unlike the majority of litho printers worldwide. This saves over 2 tonnes of solvent emissions per year, and protects the local atmosphere from ground level ozone creation. Ground level ozone can often lead to breathing difficulties, such as asthma, and interferes with plant and crop growth. 2. True "no process" plate production Unlike the rest of the industry, where plates are developed using large processors containing huge amounts of chemistry, and which wash the plates with copious amounts of water, KAP has just installed a true process-free system, where no resources are consumed apart from plates, and no hazardous wastes are generated - at all. This technology has reduced our overall factory water consumption by 48%. 3. Vegetable-based inks We use these rather than mineral oil based versions, for their sustainability, their quality and their drying characteristics. 4. Renewable power KAP sources its power from green providers/tarifs, and currently has contracts with Ecotricity and Scottish & Southern Energy. 5. ISO14001 accredited KAP has gained independent accreditation of its Environmental Management System through the ISO14001 standard. Our continuous improvement intiatives have shown some stunning results. Our 2005 and 2006 results vs. targets will be available soon online. 6. Recycled Experience Wide experience in producing quality results on materials with high post-consumer waste content. Advice of materials for projects enthusiastically given! 7. Low waste to landfill Extensive waste reduction methods, through on press closed-loop colour control, plus comprehensive waste streaming measures, has seen KAP's waste to landfill fall by 50% per annum over the last 3 years. Currently KAP recycles over 80% of its solid waste.
